This banner, button, and photograph are from a lot of 5 items related to the 1904 A.A.A. St. Louis Tour. A wonderful black and white photograph of the #60 car registered by the Black Diamond Auto Co. of Geneva N.Y. Black Diamond became Buckmobile in 1904. This is a 15 H.P., 2 cylinder, 2 passenger Buckmobile. This car was one of the many racers converging on St. Louis for the World’s Fair from all over the Country. This photo was taken on the beautiful high-society streets of St. Louis. Also included are the two banners that were originally tied to the sides of the car. These banners are covered with the signatures of the racers at the tour. Pinned to one banner is a cell’d “St. Louis Tour 1904 Operator. Automobile Association America” button. Pinned to the other banner is a cell’d button for the “Auto Speed Contest. Aug. 21, 1904. St. Louis Fair Grounds, Race Track.” This contest never happened because Barney Olfield crashed into the stands and killed some spectators during the practice. The race was never run. The photograph is mounted and framed under glass. The photo measures 9 ½” x 7 ½”, it is a crystal clear shot in near mint condition. The mat is in great condition. The old frame is in poor condition. The banners are 17 ¼” x 12 ¼” and are in used condition covered with signatures. St. Louis Tour button 1 ¾”, very good condition. Auto Speed Contest button 1 ¼”, fair condition. This collection would be fabulous framed up together. Extremely rare.
